I joined Chris on one of his free Thursdays and (on recommendation from Robin & Ryan who had done the route in 2020) we went to Wilderness Gully East in the Chew valley in Greater Manchester

It was a very cold, but clear settled day

After our long walk up the road, we diverted off to the right when we saw our target gully.  We kitted up in full waterproofs, took a quick selfie, and set off

The scramble was steady going, but there were plenty of black-ice spots on surrounding rocks.  We quickly learned to walk on the rocks either under the water, or use obviously dry ones

Scrambles up the steeper sections weren't too challenging in themselves (if you could do a high leg - cough Chris can't cough cough) but the added peril of black ice and hard falls made it more thought provoking at times

But we made it safely to the top and could admire the view.

We walked back via the reservior and as we walked down the road past Robs Rocks we joked about wishing we had our trad gear so we could do some climbing as well.

In the end we decided to finish off with an indoor bouldering session at Freeklime in Huddersfield
